Seeking the end of waste as we know it: Our mission to give the circular economy its teeth

Turn waste into worth

Through skilled craft from joinery to stitching, materials are transformed into enduring, functional creations.

ReFactory is a design and manufacturing operation built around a single, immovable premise: to use what's left. Nothing we make uses virgin material, and every product we bring to market begins life as something else.

Our name reflects our mission: reversing the flow from raw materials to reuse – transforming waste into worth. We exist to reclaim the word 'factory' from what it has become. Where the modern factory extracts, ours regenerates. Where the modern factory produces waste, ours devours it.

Nearly 200 million tonnes of waste are generated in the UK every year. Less than half gets recycled. The rest piles up or rusts in landfills, is burned into the atmosphere or churns up coasts and waterways. This is a dark age of waste – the by-product of a golden age of convenience, where everything is built to be broken, consumed and discarded.

ReFactory was created to challenge this status quo. Not just to clean up the fallout, but to reimagine what waste can become. What society and industry call waste isn't an end game for us, but the start of a journey.

Waste as an opportunity, not limitation

Why cut down a tree when you can give a second life to existing timber? Why refine more plastic when you can reclaim what's already choking our waterways? Why dig deeper for raw materials when the Earth's surface is already overflowing with them?

We don't see waste as a limitation. We treat it as a design brief. A pallet of returned stock, ready to be broken down to its constituent raw materials, can spark ideas that a blank sheet of paper never would.

Our makers – a multidisciplinary team skilled in design, joinery, fabrication, upholstery and more – treat waste with the same respect others give to walnut or marble. Every joint, finish and fix is considered. Every detail deliberate.

Core services and approach

Our work runs across five service lines, each one shaped by a different approach to transforming waste material:

  • ReSpoke – Bespoke furniture, objects and installations. Design and fabrication from recovered material, built for a particular space or commission.
  • ReTail – Circular retail and brand experiences. Displays, windows and installations that put a brand’s own waste out front.
  • ReMould – Waste-led product development of items from personal care to gifts, using injection moulding, 3D printing and more.
  • ReStitch – Creative reuse of textiles and soft materials. Upholstery, interiors and objects from textiles previously written off.
  • Rag-N-Bone Shop – An evolving catalogue of reclaimed offcuts, hardware and surplus materials for those who want to build, repair or experiment with circular design.

Five core impact pillars further define how we work:

  • Waste, reworked. Every design diverts material from landfill, with elevated function and visible worth.
  • Longevity by design. We build to last and for repair, keeping materials in play and products out of the skip.
  • Circularity in practice. Not a theory. Our supply chain, our material palette, our process — circular from start to finish.
  • Responsibility and honesty. No greenwashing. No fluff. Just traceable materials, transparent processes and the will to do better.
  • Shared responsibility. We support other makers. We open up our methods. Because a circular future is collaborative, or it isn't one at all.

Whoever we work with – from brands looking to reuse their own waste in powerful ways, to businesses and organisations creating statement spaces, to the commission of one-of-a-kind pieces – our work starts with the material and ends at the limits of circular design and remanufacture.

Our way of making isn't a compromise. It's an upgrade. The new standard starts here. We are ReFactory, and we've only just begun.
