Basic Overview:
Vox Mortis, Latin for "Voice of the Dead”, is a 5ft freestanding sculptural skull speaker system, built entirely from salvaged, repaired and reclaimed materials. A statement piece in every sense, it transforms waste into a high-end audio experience, giving discarded materials a powerful new voice.

How it was made
The carcass was constructed from Myboard, with approximately four boards used, each containing 35kg of recycled plastic waste. The skull's facial features and depth were created by layering additional pieces of Myboard to build up intricate detail. The carcass was then finished with luxury hardwood veneer, sourced from offcuts discarded during Bentley's automotive manufacturing process, salvaged pieces carefully pieced together to create a seamless, high-end surface. The mural across the skull's face was hand painted by renowned London based artist Hatch, using salvaged paint received by Mygroup as a waste material. The speaker drivers themselves were consumer returned, high end units, repaired, refurbished and embedded into the eye sockets of the skull. All electrical hardware was similarly salvaged and refurbished inhouse, supported by Refectory’s WEEE permit for waste electronics.
